Thanks for visiting this site- we hope you will find it useful. Since we are striving to create an online community- where you provide the content- there are a few things you will need to know about using this site. If you ever have questions, please contact the webmaster. This site is supported by volunteers, so thank you for your patience.

This site is based on the open-source Content Management System (CMS) Drupal. EGB has chosen this platform because it will give us the greatest flexibility to offer the tools which our members and friends would like to see. Look for updates on this site from time to time about new development plans, and also opportunities to participate in that process. EGB members are also encouraged to add suggestions in the forums section of this site. Registering
To access certain functions on the site- such as posting events or announcements or commenting on articles- you will need to register as a user, which is free. Once you complete the registration, your account will be approved by a Core Committee member. You will receive an email notification with information about your registration. Thank you for your patience- we want to make sure that no spam accounts are created, and with an all-volunteer organization, it may take several hours for a registration to be approved.

Your user role will be based on your relationship with the Emerging Green Builders- if you are a paid member, you will have access to additional content and also certain role-dependent authoring privileges not available to other site users. Your user status can be changed when we receive notification from national that your membership has been processed- you will receive an email with a password to upgrade your status.

We recommend that, when creating your account, you complete the full name field, so that we can easily locate your account in the event there are issues. You are of course free to use a screen name for your account if you would prefer this level of privacy. No one will access or be given rights to your contact information.

Publishing Content
There are several different content types that users can post once they are logged in- events and announcements can be published by any authenticated user. EGB members may post forum topics and create ad-hoc or "organic" groups.

All the content types for which you have publishing privileges are indicated under the "Create Content" menu item. To post information on the site, select the content type. Depending on what content type you are publishing, there may be certain required fields, which will indicated by*. Many of the options for publishing- including, for example, publishing your content only to a group to which you belong- are contained in collapsed menus. Take a moment to review all of the options before getting started. You will be required to preview any content before you submit it- please take advantage of this functionality.

We do NOT recommend that you try cutting and pasting from MS Word in rich text editor mode. MS Word has proprietary formatting tags that do not plug-and-play with non-Microsoft products. Switch to the plain text editor first (a button to select this feature is located to the lower left of all editable text areas), paste your text, then select preview at the bottom of the page. You may now switch back to the rich text editor and begin editing and formatting your post.

If you are having issues with formatting, try switching to the plain text editor first and remove any formatting tags. You can paste html formatted text in this mode, too. If you are still having issues, be sure the Input Format (menu located directly below the text area) is set to "PHP code". If you are having issues with formatting, do not submit your article. Ask for help.

This site is a free service provided for the professional development of young professionals in the green building field. Content should be of a relevant nature. Also- any content on a Drupal site is called a "node". You may see this term, so don't be surprised by it.

See our "Subscribe to Content" page for more information. The site also has a RSS feed, or you can simply stop by every once in a while. We also plan to have a newsletter in the near future.

EGB members have the ability to create groups. Groups are a way for EGB'ers to post and share information within a smaller group on a specific a content area- residential rain catchment for example. To create a group, please contact the co-chairs and we will provide you with the necessary user privileges and a how-to guide.
